Governor Greg Abbott has announced a significant step forward for Texas’s semiconductor industry, awarding a $7.87 million grant from the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund to DSM Semichem LLC. This grant will fuel the expansion of DSM’s specialty materials and chemicals facility in Plainview, bringing their total capital investment to a staggering $176 million and creating 40 new high-paying jobs. This strategic move underscores Texas’s commitment to strengthening domestic supply chains for critical technologies.

The investment directly supports the production of electronic-level sulfuric acid (ELSA), a vital component in semiconductor manufacturing. By doubling their production volume, DSM will play a pivotal role in meeting the surging demand for chips in high-performance computing, 5G, AI, and defense applications. This initiative, backed by the Texas CHIPS Act, solidifies Texas’s position as a national leader in semiconductor innovation and manufacturing, ensuring a more secure and prosperous future for the state and the nation.
