Education

Over 22,000 residents call Plainview home with a total of 36,000 residents in Hale County. Higher Education includes Wayland Baptist University and South Plains College serving over 2400 students combined.

Wayland Baptist University

Wayland Baptist University educational system headquarters are located in Plainview. Founded in 1908 by a pioneer physician, WBU has campuses in Amarillo, Lubbock, San Antonio and Wichita Falls, Texas; Albuquerque and Clovis, New Mexico; Altus, Oklahoma; Phoenix and Sierra Vista, Arizona; Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska; and Honolulu, Hawaii. The university offers undergraduate degrees in many, major academic fields of study and graduate degrees in business, education, science, and religion. WBU has a rich heritage of athletic excellence for men and women in a variety of sports.

South Plains College

South Plains College is a comprehensive, two-year community college that serves the greater South Plains area of Texas with innovative educational programs that span the arts and sciences, technical education, continuing education and workforce development. Serving a 15-county area that comprises the southern portion of the Texas High Plains, the college’s main campus is located in Levelland, Texas. SPC maintains two extension centers in Lubbock that are located at the Reese Center and The Byron Martin Advanced Technology Center. Additional extension centers are maintained in Plainview, Muleshoe and Denver City.
